Plant Fibre was founded by Kate Plant in 2009 to showcase her fibre work. Kate is continually inspired by the patterns and colours found in nature; decaying bark, the rings on felled trees, ripples on a lake, vivid moss against stark grey rock.
Kootenay School of the Arts in Nelson, BC was the springboard for Plant Fibre. Three years spent learning and refining various techniques have led to a body of work that emphasizes natural materials to create limited production lines. Kate is currently exploring dendrochronology - the study of growth rings in trees and how these images can be expressed on cloth.
